  • Has taught bands of all ages and grades 5-12 since 1983

  • Has been at St. Edmond since 2008

  • Teaches private piano lesson and instrumental lessons in Fort Dodge

  • Plays French horn in the Fort Dodge Area Symphony and Karl L. King Municipal Band

Ms. Curtis was a long-term music substitute for general music and choir at Westside Elementary in Elkhorn, WI. Collaborating with the other district elementary music teachers, Ms. Curtis conducted the all district elementary choir spring concert. Durning the summer, she teaches UW - Whitewater middle and high school band camp. She is a member of the following professional organizations: Jazz Education Networtk (JEN), Iowa Bandmasters Association (IBA), National Association for Music Educators (NAfME), and North Central Iowa Bandmasters Association (NCIBA).

 

Ms. Curtis takes advantage of many music performances.   As a student, she performed in the Karl L. King Municipal Band and Fort Dodge Area Symphony and Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra. UW - Whitewater provided leadership opportunities in concert band, orchestra, jazz band, musical pit, women's chorale, and marching band.

Through research grant writing proposals, Ms. Curtis created two undergraduate music education projects. She presented her findings twice at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research and once at Wisconsin Music Education Association Conference. Her areas of interest are the emotional benefits of interactive music activities with nursing home residents and visual prompts for young composing students.
